Osun police command during a press briefing yesterday at the state police headquarters in Osogbo, said, it arrested 12 suspects in June over alleged armed robbery, membership in unlawful society and murder.
The command spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, said that the police arrested the suspects in different locations across the state.
“On November, 2022. the complainant reported at Ataoja divisional police headquarters that three armed men wearing face masks broke into her house at about 0300hrs of 20th November, 2022 at gun point demanded for money and jewelries.
The suspects dispossessed the victim of #30,000, locked her and the children in the toilet and went away with her unregistered Toyota corolla 2006 model.
However, The case was referred to the command anti-robbery section for discreet investigation. Since then the directives have been man haunting for the suspects.
She added that, on 13th January, 2023. the complainant reported at ‘A’ division Ilesa that his unregistered Toyota Corolla car 2004 model with one android and Nokia phones were snatched at gun point from his wife in Ilesa while driving home at about 2000hrs.
The case was also referred to anti robbery section for thorough investigation and the detectives immediately put all necessary investigative mechanism in place and arrested the three suspects in Ilesa.
The suspects confessed to have robbed the first complainant of the above first exhibits and the said amount of money. The suspects who proved to be harden criminals were charged to court and consequently remanded in Ilesa correctional centre. While they were in the correctional centre, police did not rest on their oars, investigation continues and they were later reproduced from the remand for further investigation which led the team to Port-Harcourt, River State where the two (2) Toyota corolla vehicles and the phones belonging to the two complainants were recovered.
Investigation further revealed that one of the suspects John Michael registered the stolen vehicles in his name and sold it in Port-Harcourt at the rate of 2.5million naira each before they were recovered.
Opalola, the command’s Public Relations Officer warned that anyone found culpable of faking kidnap will be prosecuted. She added that, “When rumour of kidnapping in the state spreads here and there, It affects the communities and discourage investors.”
Meanwhile, the command would leave no stone unturned to getting rid of criminal activities in the state, she warned.
On 29th July, 2023. at about 1100hrs upon information received from members of the public that some hoodlums suspected to be a group of motorcycle snatchers terrorizing Osogbo and its environs were sighted, policemen of Anti-cultism squad in collaboration with the hunter Association of Nigeria at Ita Olokan area Osogbo swung into action and the suspects were arrested and they confessed to the crime.
Meanwhile efforts are on top gear to apprehend other syndicate of the group.
The suspects will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
On 17th July, 2023. at about 1400hrs based on intelligent gathering that some hoodlums suspected to be notorious gangsters who have been terrorizing Ilesa town and its environs were operating, police operatives in Ilesa town apprehended the suspect at Sabo area Ilesa and referred the case to anti-cultism squad of the command for further interrogation and investigation.
The suspect confessed to be a member of Eiye confraternity at Ilesa town and also involved in the killings in Ilesa town.
The suspect will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
On 27th July, 2023. at about 0330hrs, one Adeniyi Adesina a member of Aiye confraternity was arrested in connection with a case of burglary / stealing at St. Francis hostel in Esa-oke town.
The suspect confessed to have stormed the hostel at the odd hour of the day in a bid to rob the innocent students in the hostel. He further confessed to be a member of Aiye confraternity and also a dismissed army personnel.
The suspect will soon be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation, meanwhile surveillance are still in place to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate.
